25 - Monaco Grand Prix

Post no. 25 here:
Sebastian Vettel wins again!

The Monaco Grand Prix was held last weekend, and Sebastian Vettel wins again! This is his 3rd consecutive race win and his 5th win from the last 6 races, and does not look like slowing down. This was Vettel's 1st win at Monaco and it will be one to remember.

"I was 15 seconds behind Jenson Button and the victory seemed far away, but this is a crazy place" said the German. Vettel was very lucky in the race win, his tyres were shot but he managed to survive an extra 15 laps to keep up the pace. Then a crash occurred meaning a restart, which meant he could change his tyres and finish the last 5 laps equal with the leader. Where he managed to cruise home to victory in the last lap, some might say luck but in sport you make your own luck.

Vettel after the race win

1st place - Sebastian Vettel
2nd - Fernando Alonso
3rd - Jensen Button
4th - Mark Webber

This extends Vettel's championship point lead, and is looking to take out the title. This basically ends all hope for Australian's Mark Webber to win the championship but hopefully he can take out a podium placing.

24 - UEFA Champions League winners

Post no. 23 here:
Barcelona are the 2011 UEFA champions league winners!

This was predicted as one of the greatest match-ups ever, and we weren't let down. Barcelona were faultless in the final as they defeated Sir Alex Ferguson's team and his hope of winning a 3rd UEFA title.

Led by their champion Lionel Messi, they won their 4th UEFA title. Manchester was thought to be the only side, worthy of defeating one of the teams of the century but even they could not challenge them with a 3-1 loss. Barcelona grabbed the lead early in the game, but Manchester's Wayne Rooney equalized late in the 1st half. The game was tied at half-time and was set-up for a thriller.

Barcelona during the UEFA final.
The 2nd half couldn't come sooner for football fans, but it wasn't the outcome that Manchester United wanted. Barcelona blew them out of the water, kicking two goals and Manchester United didn't even look like equalizing.    Lionel Messi kicking one goal, and being one of the players of the tournament. This was a well deserved tournament win by Barcelona and I can't wait for next year!

22 - NBA Finals

Post no. 22 here:
NBA FINALS!

Match-Up
Miami Heat vs Dallas Mavericks
Rematch of the 06' finals, where Dallas led 2-0 and had a 13 point lead late in the 3rd game, then one of the most amazing comebacks ever when Miami won the next 4 games to win 4-2.

Both teams in good form, with both winning their series' 4-1. Miami have their superstar line-up, the big 3. Lebron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh, they are looking to carry their team to a championship. Where as Dallas have a wealth of experience, with Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd looking to win their 1st championship.

Lebron James during the series win over Chicago!
Both teams have been playing for this moment for their whole careers, but only 1 team will enjoy the success. I think Dallas wants it more, but Miami will have too much skill and athleticism, as well as having home court advantage and will win their 2nd championship in franchise history.

Will the move Lebron James did, too leave Cleavland too play for Miami work in its 1st year?

Find out in a week or so!

21 - AFL tipping Rd 10

Post no. 21 here:
AFL tipping guide for the week. Last week 6/8

A bit of an improvement last week, hopefully I keep going with it.

Melbourne vs Carlton
Carlton after coming off a close lost to Geelong last week, should have too much skill for the hopeless Melbourne. Carlton by 40 points.

North Melbourne vs Sydney
Both teams not in great form, but Sydney away from home is making me lean towards North for an upset.

Fremantle vs St. Kilda
St. Kilda finally won last week, but won't be able to win away from home. Fremantle by over 20.

Gold Coast vs Geelong
Top of the table Geelong should smash Gold Coast, over 60 points.

Richmond vs Port Adelaide
Richmond after a huge win against Essendon last week, should be able to beat the hopeless Port Adelaide.

What a grab!
Collingwood vs West Coast
Collingwood survived a scare against Adelaide last week, should just pull through against a red-hot West Coast.

Western Bulldogs vs Hawthorn
Western Bulldogs in terrible form, and Hawthorn the exact opposite. Big win towards Hawthorn!

20 - Spanish Grand Prix

Post no. 20 here:
Spanish Grand Prix!

Sebastian Vettel has won his 2nd Grand Prix in a row, with a victory in the Spanish Grand Prix. The 23 year old, started second on the grid behind fellow Red Bull team mate Mark Webber.

Vettel held off Lewis Hamilton in the 66 lap race, with a thrilling win over Lewis Hamilton. "I am happy with that, so happy" said Vettel after the race. Vettel was only leading by half a second coming to the closing stages of the race, but managed to hold on for a great race win. Vettel extended his championship lead, to 41 points over Hamilton with the F1 championship approaching the half-way mark. Team Red Bull has a commanding lead over the rest of the competition.

The Grid of the Spanish Grand Prix

Australia's own Mark Webber after starting in poll position, could only manage 4th. This almost ends Webber's hopes of winning the 2011 Formula One driving championship.

19 - French Open

Post no. 19 here:
Roland Garros

The French Open started yesterday with 128 players hoping to hold up the title.
My predictions for the semifinalists:

Men's singles:
1. Rafael Nadal
5-time French Open champion, is looking to win again after last year's victory!

2. Novak Djokavic
Has not lost at all this year and has beaten Nadal 2 times in as many weeks.

3. Roger Federer
Legend of the sport, is hoping to win his 17th grand slam title!

4. Andy Murray
After missing out at the final of the Australian Open, can he go one step further?

I would have to say Nadal will win, but I have a lot of doubts...

Nadal after 2010 French Open win
Women's singles:
The women's draw has opened up significantly, with both William sister's not competing and 4-time champion Justine Henin has retired. It could be anyone's game!

1. Kim Clijsters
Even though she will be playing with an injury, she is a master at Grand Slams!

2. Caroline Wozniaki
Is in good form winning a tournament last week, but is yet to win a Grand Slam. Is this her time?

3. Francesa Schiavone
Last year's surprise winner is not in great form, but neither was she last year..

4. Sam Stosur
Australia's own Sam Stosur, after losing in the final last year wants to go one better!

17 - NBA conference finals

Post no. 17 here:
NBA conference finals update:
Both conferences have played 2 games each

Western Conference:
Dallas vs Oklahoma
Dallas has home court advantage, and was looking to win both at home. They managed to win the 1st game 121-112, with their leader Dirk Nowitzki scoring 48 points!
Oklahoma bounced back to steal an away win, in the 2nd game. Oklahoma won 106-100, with Kevin Durant leading them with 27 points.
With the series tied at 1-1, they move to Oklahoma for 2 games there. It looks to be a very tight series.

Oklahoma took game 2 of the series

Eastern Conference:
Miami vs Chicago
In game 1 of the series Chicago blew Miami out of the game with a 103-82 win. They were led by league MVP Derrick Rose who scored 28 points.
Miami bounced back in game 2 with a surprise 85-75 win. With their superstar Lebron James scoring 29 points.
Miami now has 2 home games, to try and build a series lead. Going to be a very interesting couple of games!

Can Rose lift them to the Finals?

16 - AFL tipping Rd 9

Post no. 16 here:
AFL tipping guide for RD. 9. Last week 5/8 again....

Carlton vs Geelong
Geelong haven't lost a game yet, including a win over last year premiers. Carlton coming off a buy last week, Cats by 20 points.

Saints vs Melbourne
Both teams in terrible form, but Saints are looking better. I think Saints by over 30 points.

Port vs Freo
Both teams need a confidence booster, but i think Fremantle are too good for Port.

Lions vs North Melbourne
Lions were looking better last week against Essendon, and North have to travel. Brisbane Lions will win this game.
Golden goals
Hawthorn's superstar Lance Franklin

Richmond vs Essendon
Big game, but Essendon will have too much class for the Tigers. Essendon by 30.

Collingwood vs Adelaide
Collingwood lost its 1st game of the season last week, and will look to consolidate with a big win over Adelaide. Pies by over 50.

Sydney vs Hawthorn
Important game for both sides, but I expect Sydney to win because of home advantage! Close game though.

West Coast vs Bulldogs
Bulldogs need a win to keep their season alive, but West Coast at home will be too strong for the Dogs.

15 - Tiger Woods

Post no. 15 here:
First golf post and it is about Tiger Woods.

Tiger Woods is arguably the most successful golfer ever, with over 14 major golf championships (2nd highest ever) and 71 PGA tournament wins (3rd most).
When the news about Woods came out about his infidelity on his wife he took an indefinite leave from golfing. Even though he missed most of the 2010 golfing season, he was still recorded as the highest earning sportsman in the world with $105 million.

Tiger Woods as a 2 year old child showing golfing potential
Since coming back to golfing April 2010, he has lost his world number 1 ranking and is now ranked #8. Just last week Tiger was participating in a warm-up tournament for one of the biggest tournament of the year; the US open. During the first 9 holes of the 1st round, Woods aggravated a previous injury and is in doubt for the US open, that was the earliest exit in a tournament ever in his career.Woods said on Twitter, "Bummed that my left leg has me on the sidelines, but i want, and expect, to be at the US Open. Will do all i can to get there."

Hopefully for the golfing community, Tiger Woods plays and comes back to his best form. Otherwise the golfing community would have lost one of the legends of the game!

14 - NBA conference finals match ups

Post no. 14 here:
NBA conference finals!

The NBA season is nearly finished, with the last round of play-offs before the finals. The conference semi-finals showed who were the contenders between the pretenders. Dallas swept the series against Lakers, and both Chicago and Miami had relatively easy series wins. While Oklahoma and Memphis battled out a thriller with the series coming down to the last game, with Oklahoma winning.

Derrick Rose hopes to defeat the Miami Heat
The match ups:
Oklahoma vs Dallas (home court):
I am tipping Dallas to win this series, because they are in tremendous form after sweeping the Lakers. Should be close though.

Miami vs Chicago (home court):
I am tipping Chicago to win, coming down to the last game of the best of 7 series. Only because they have home court advantage, but it could go either way. Going to be a great series.

13 - Manchester United wins EPL

Post no. 13 here, also 200 followers :)
Manchester United wins English Premier League

Manchester United has won a record 19th EPL title, United secured the title even with 2 rounds left to play in the season. The Reds won the trophy with a come from behind draw against Blackburn on Saturday. Wayne Rooney kicked the only goal for United from the penalty spot, at the 70th minute to tie the game at 1-1. “It was terrifying, the ref took a long time to give it,” Rooney said. “I just had to compose myself.”

Manchester United claims is 19th EPL title

United's 19th title, was the 12th under Sir Alex Ferguson's coaching. The biggest contribution why Manchester won its 19th title was the team's sparkling form at home, of its 17 home games it won 16 and drew one.

Manchester United turns its attention to the Champion League Final in two weeks, against Barcelona.

10 - Giro d'Italia accident

Post no. 10 here: sorry if you have already read this, but i thought i would post it anyway
Some sad news here Wouter Weylandt has been in a terrible accident on stage 3 of the Giro d'Italia.

The Belgian rider was racing down a steep descent, where he fell down 25 meters and reports say he died instantly. His team Leopark-Trek have pulled out of the Giro d'Italia, with team captain saying 'We cannot continue after these circumstances'

The Peloton had agreed not to race stage 4 competitively as a sign or respect to Wouter, when the they were approaching the finish line race leader David Millar signaled for team Leopark-Trek to the front and the team linked arms and crossed the line together.

Leopard
Team Leopark-Trek an emotional stage 4.

The Peloton also agreed to give all stage earnings to Wouter's wife, who is also due to give birth to their 1st child in September. This was a beautiful gesture to Wouter and the people who care about him, and all our thoughts are with his family.

Time to end on a good note, with

9 - French Open warm-up

Post no. 9 here:
Lets talk about tennis! Warm up before French Open

In the final of the Madrid Tennis Masters, the warm up for the French Open. Novak Djokovic vs Rafael Nadal. It was number 1 seed vs number 2 seed. Novak had not lost at all this year, winning the Australian Open and other tournaments with his win streak at 34. Compare this streak to Nadal's on clay court, with 37 wins in a row.

Even this shot, couldn't win him the match...

Two tight sets later and Novak's streak continues, with a 7-5, 6-4 win. This was Novak's 24th career title win and he might not experience a sweeter win.

8 - Turkish Grand Prix

Post no. 8 here:
I haven't done any racing posts so here it is:
Turkish F1 Grand Prix the 4th race for the year, was last weekend and it was an outstanding race. The two red bull drivers claimed another 1st and 2nd, with Sebastion Vettel winning and Australia's own Mark Webber coming 2nd.

Mark Webber was again slow of the grid slumping to 5th, and had to claw his way back to the top but there was no catching Vettel as he cruised to a flawless win. Webber and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso battled it out for 2nd with Webber just inching ahead with a 2 second win for 2nd.

Sebastian Vettel
Vettel's win was overshadowed by the closeness between 4th and 6th, only 10 seconds separated them at the finish line.

Vettel extends his championship lead to 93 points in front of Lewis Hamilton and Webber is in 3rd place. The next race is the Spanish GP and Webber desperately needs a win if he wants to contend for the championship.

7 - NBA conference semi-finals and 100 followers

Post no. 7 here: Also 100 followers :)
NBA conference semi-finals

Memphis vs Oklahoma
Memphis has taken the early lead, and stolen home-court advantage from Oklahoma leading 2-1 with another home game to come. Will they finish them off?

Lakers vs Mavs
Dallas Maverics have stormed this series with a huge series sweep against Lakers. They took both of Lakers home games and did not look back. Lakers end on a sour note, on what could have been a fantastic year.
Dirk Nowitzki, leading the Mavs to series win

Bulls vs Atlanta
Chicago lost the 1st game at home, but have struck back to win the next two. They led 2-1 and looked to be doing it pretty easily, but lost the last game to have the series tied at 2-2, and they have a fight on their hands.

Heat vs Celtics
Miami won both home games, and Boston fought back to take their home game. Series at 2-1 with another home game to Celtics. Going to be a close series.

5 - UEFA champions league match-up

Post no. 5 here
Who will win the 2011 UEFA Champions League?

Manchester United vs Barcelona
Repeat of the 2009 final and has been the match-up we have been waiting for.  Barcelona won in 09, will United have their revenge on will Barcelona continue their dominance in the world game?
Teams meet on the 28th of May to write another chapter on their rich history. There is not a lot to separate the two teams, and the game might hang on a single act of glory.

Messi vs Ronaldo
Lionel Messi is obviously one of the most talented players ever to play the sport, and with the pressure of Spain on his shoulders will he deliver?
Christiano Ronaldo, is and has been a superstar for Manchester United and will he carry them to another trophy?
Lionel Messi heads in Barcelona's second goal after 70 minutes

4 - AFL tipping Rd 7

Post no. 4 here:

AFL is back; to all non-Australians comment on what you want me to blog about next.
RD 7 has arrived with 8 games, and this will be your tipping guide on who will win.

Port Adelaide vs Hawthorn
Even though it is in Adelaide, Port is in such bad form that Hawthorn should win be more than 30 points.

Dogs vs Swans
This should be a close game, Dogs need a win to keep their top 4 finish alive and Swans coming off a bad loss to Carlton, Dogs by under 10 points.

Geelong vs North Melbourne
Geelong in great form they are yet to lose a game North have only 1 win to their name, Geelong by over 50.

Richmond vs Fremantle
Interesting game, Richmond with 2 wins on the trot and Fremantle have to travel. Richmond with an upset, very close though.

Gold Coast vs Brisbane
Battle of the bottom, both teams needs a win for their confidence but I expect Brisbane will have much more experience to outlast Gold Coast. Brisbane by over 30.

Essendon vs West Coast
Essendon in good form and West Coast have to travel, sets it up for a huge win to Essendon by more than 40.

Melbourne vs Adelaide
Tight game, both teams needs to rebound after their poor showings the week before. I expect Melbourne to win at home, under 10 points.

St. Kilda vs Carlton
Another tough game, St. Kilda desperately needs a win to keep their finals hopes alive, Carlton in good form. I think Saints will come away with a win for their season under 5 points.

Going to be a great week in the AFL.
