49 - AFL Rd 15 tipping

Post no. 49 here:
AFL Rd 15 tipping guide

Bulldogs vs Melbourne
Melbourne is in great form and is coming off 4 wins in a row and will make it 5 against Bulldogs. Should be very close though.

Richmond vs Carlton
Carlton will be too good for Richmond and should by a huge margin.

Fremantle vs Gold Coast
Fremantle at home against the young Gold Coast, should see Fremantle win by over 60 points.

Essendon vs Geelong
Essendon has lost 6 games in a row against the team that has not lost all season, should see Geelong win by over 50 points.
Great leap

Adelaide vs Sydney
Going to be a close match but Adelaide is in terrible form and Sydney should be too good, and pull away with the win.

Brisbane vs Port Adelaide
Clash of the bottom two teams, but Brisbane being at home should be too good for Port Adelaide.

Collingwood vs Hawthorn
The match-up of the week, the 2nd team vs the 3rd team should see Collingwood win by under 5 points.

North Melbourne vs St. Kilda
Another close match, both teams one game behind the top 8. North Melbourne are in better form and should win in a close match-up.

48 - Wimbledon Update

Post no. 48 here:
Wimbledon is nearly over with Men's and Women's singles into the semi-finals.
This year’s Wimbledon has been a surprise with a few upsets, the Women's draw is completely open with both William sisters being knocked out early and the top 4.
Men's draw was more expected, except for Jo Wilfred Tsonga who is in great form after knocking out Roger Federer.

Match Ups: Men's
Andy Murray vs Rafael Nadal
One of the match-ups of the tournament with both players eager to make the final, I expect Nadal to be too good for Britain's Andy Murray.

Jo Wilfred Tsonga vs Novak Djokavic
Tsonga will be too tired after beating Federer in a 5 set match, and Djokavic is still in blistering form. Djokavic will be too good and make it through to the final.
Tsonga after his win

Women’s
Victoria Azarenka vs Petra Kvitova
Azarenka is in great form, and will be able to defeat last year’s semi-finalists Kvitova.

Maria Sharapova vs Sabine Lisicki
Sharapova is experienced when it comes to Grand Slam finals, and will be able to beat Lisicki who is on a dream run, should be close though.

47 - Tour de France preview

Post no. 47 here:
Tour de France starts July 2nd and here is a preview of what might happen in the 3 weeks of the greatest cycling race of all time.

The 2011 Tour de France will have 198 riders competing over 3 weeks covering more than 3,430 kilometers from the west coast of Europe to Paris. The race will include a team time-trial, an individual time-trial and nine days in the mountains, including a climb up the legendary Alpe d'Huez.

Defending champion Alberto Contador his main rival Andy Schleck and sprint king Mark Cavendish will all be on the start line on July 2, as will a six-man Australian contingent including Cadel Evans and gun rookie Richie Porte. Who will be wearing the coveted yellow jersey on July 24th?
Cadel Evans & Alberto Contador
Cadel Evans and Alberto Contador

Alberto Contador is the best rider in the world, and is able to win both Giro d'Italia and Tour de France in the same year the only problem is that he is involved in a doping scandal and might be side tracked.

Hopefully Australian's Cadel Evans is able to cause an upset and finish on top after 3 brutal weeks.

46 - European Grand Prix

Post no. 46 here:
The European Grand Prix was held last weekend, at Valencia. It was one of the biggest races of the season in context of the 2011 championship. Could Sebastian Vettel extend his lead, or would Alonso and Webber close the gap.

Sebastian Vettel dominated the Grand Prix with no-one getting close to the Red Bull, after starting on poll Vettel led the whole race and finished up winning by over 10 seconds to Fernando Alonso and almost sealing the 2011 championship.
Vettel on podium after race win
Placings:
1. Sebastian Vettel
2. Fernando Alonso
3. Mark Webber

Vettel has nearly a 100 point championship lead, and as long as he finishes the remaining 10 races he should claim his 2nd title in a row. Webber is in 2nd place and is looking to finish 2nd in the championship and Alonso is 3rd.

44 - AFL Rd 14 tipping guide

Post no. 44 here:
The AFL season is into it's 14th round and here are some tips to help you this round.

Hawthorn vs Essendon
Big game for both teams, Essendon has lost 4 in a row and Hawthorn wants to make the top 4. Hawthorn should win in a close one.

Gold Coast vs Bulldogs
Bulldogs regained some form from a win last week and should win again this week.

Richmond vs Melbourne
Richmond are in better form than Melbourne and they should get over the line, under 10 points though

Look at him fly!

Sydney vs Collingwood
Collingwood are too good for Sydney and will dominate this game

Fremantle vs Brisbane
Fremantle at home vs Brisbane away, equals a win of over 60 points

Geelong vs Adelaide
Geelong are yet to lose a game, and will not lost against Adelaide expect a big win.

Carlton vs West Coast
Carlton in great form and so are West Coast, expect a close game but Carlton should win

Port Adelaide vs North Melbourne
Port Adelaide are hopeless even at home, and North should be able to win comfortably.

43 - NBA Draft

Post no. 43 here:
The NBA draft is approaching and here is a preview:

Cleveland and Minnesota finished last and 2nd last respectively last season and are hoping for a good outcome in the NBA draft. Cleveland has pick #1 and #4, Minnesota has pick #2 and Utah has pick #3.

This year hasn't been a strong year in the draft with their only being two stand out players and should go as pick #1 and #2.

1. Kyrie Irving (Point Guard)
He has been the stand-out in draft camp, with great skills, speed and decision making. One of his weaknesses though is that he has little college experience and is recovering from a toe injury. Should be pick #1 and go to Cleveland.
Kyrie Irving should go pick #1
2. Derrick Williams (Shooting forward)
Definitely 2nd behind Kyrie Irving and he deserves it with his shooting skills, size and skill. Derrick also spent two years playing for Arizona and has enough experience to transfer to NBA. One of his problems is what position he will play, because he can play SF and PF. Also is ability on defense, but that can be improved. Should go to Minnesota.

42 - US Open

Post no. 42 here:
The US open was held last weekend with a surprise victory to Rory Mcilroy.

Mcilroy surprised everyone to win the biggest tournament of the year and at the age of 22 became the youngest person to win it in 88 years. Mcilroy finished at the end of the tournament 16 under par and won by a margin of 8 strokes.

"Rory is going to have a great career; there is no question about that. He has all the components,'' said Jack Nicklaus, the 18-time major champion who has become a mentor to Mcilroy over the last few years. This
can only be the start of Mcilroy's career and being so young he has much to look forward too.
Rory McIlroy - US Open 2011: Rory McIlroy opens door to making of a Holywood legend
Mcilroy during his US open win
With Tiger Woods out of the tournament, it meant the competition would be much fairer and a more contested tournament. This is not what Mcilroy had in mind when he demolished everyone else to kick-start his career.

Some people are saying Mcilroy will overtake the record of 18 majors, but that is premature but anything is possible. Yet Mcilroy is still only 22. He is fit, he is ambitious and, most importantly of all, he now knows he can win on the game's biggest stage.

41 - Wimbledon

Post no. 41 here:
England's Grand Slam starts today, with this year being hotly contested for both Men's and Women's. It is the 125th time Wimbledon has been played, it is the most prized Grand Slam.

128 players are hoping to last the fortnight and be the last one standing, will England's champion Andy Murray win or will the Swiss King Roger Federer win again. Who knows? It is anyone's game.

My predictions for the Semi-Finals:
Men's Singles
1. Roger Federer a 5 time Wimbledon winner, will start favorite to win again.
2. Novak Djokavic, has only lost once in 2011 and is looking to carry the form over.
3. Rafael Nadal, French Open winner is hoping to play well on his least favorite surface.
4. English Andy Murray has the crowd support and is trying to give them what they want, after losing in the final last year.

Nadal after winning last year
Women's Singles
1. Maria Sharapova has a good chance to claim her 2nd Wimbledon title.
2. Li Na, French Open winner is in the form of her life and is looking to continue it.
3. Serena Williams, is defending her title but has only just recovered from injury.
4. Carolina Wozniaki, is no. 1 in the world but has never performed well in Grand Slams. Can she end the drought?
The Women's singles are so close it is hard to pick and anyone can win on their day.

39 - AFL Rd 13 tipping guide

Post no. 39 here:
AFL Rd 13 tipping, last week 6/8

Bulldogs vs Adelaide
Both teams are in terrible form and their seasons are basically over, but I think Bulldogs will get a much needed win.

Hawthorn vs Gold Coast
Hawthorn in great form and this will be too easy for them, expect a big win.

Essendon vs North Melbourne
Essendon need a win to stay in the top 8, and they should win pretty comfortably against North.

Brisbane vs Richmond
This will be a close contest, but Brisbane at home is making me tip them it should be under 10 points

St.Kilda vs Geelong
Geelong yet to lose a game, and they will keep this winning run going. Should be very close though
Look at that grab!

Melbourne vs Fremantle
Big game for both clubs, Melbourne starting to get some form and Fremantle rocked by injury. Melbourne to win in a tight contest

Carlton vs Sydney
The match-up of the round, Carlton in terrific form and should continue that with another big win over Sydney.

West Coast vs Port Adelaide
This will be too easy for West Coast, they are on fire and Port are ice cold. Over 50 points

38 - Boston Bruins

Post no. 38 here:
Boston Bruins are the NHL champions of the 2011 season.

My last post on the finals was the Vancouver was leading Boston 3-2, with both teams having one more home game each:

Game 6:
Boston needed a win to level the series and did they deliver, winning the game 5-2 with goalie Tim Thomas having another outstanding game with a save percentage of 94.7%. Also having a good game was Mark Recchi who set up 3 of the 5 goals for Boston.
Boston Bruins wins the NHL finals
Game 7:
Everything on the line for both teams, series tied at 3-3 with the game being played at Vancouver. Boston dominated the game and did not give Vancouver a look into the game. Boston won 4-0, with Tim Thomas the stand out with a clean sheet in the most important game of his career. Boston wins the Conn Smythe trophy for the 1st time in 39 years.

Everyone knows Lebron James right?
Joke of the Day:
I hear in Dallas they are starting Lebron day, everyone gets to go home 12 minutes early!

37 - Canada Grand Prix

Post no. 37 here:
Canadian Grand Prix was held last weekend, with Jenson Button finally ending Sebastian Vettel's winning run.

The Canadian Grand Prix was a extraordinary race with there being two accidents and several rain delays, which stopped the race for two hours. The race went down to the last lap with Vettel in the lead and Button closing in, Button overtook Vettel to steal the win and finished only 2 seconds faster than him.
The start of the Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton had another disappointing race after colliding with another racer on lap 8 and had to retire, also Fernando Alonso was forced to retire after crashing out on lap 37. This left the door wide open for Vettel to extend his championship lead and would be happy with 2nd.

Podium Places:
1. Jenson Button
2. Sebastian Vettel
3. Mark Webber

Overall Standing:
1. Sebastian Vettel (161 points)
2. Jenson Button (101)
3. Mark Webber (94)

This race win to Button gives him a chance to catch up to Vettel, and win the 2011 F1 championship.

36 - Dallas Mavericks

Post no. 36 here:
Dallas Mavericks are the 2011 NBA champions.

My last recap the series were tied at 2-2, with 1 more home game for Dallas followed by 2 more for Miami. Dallas did not look back winning the next two and claiming their 1st franchise championship.

Game 5:
Dallas' last home game, and the winner would take the lead in the series. The game was close until the closing stages of the last quarter with Dallas ending the game with a 17-4 run winning the game 112-103. Dirk Nowitzki scored 29 points with help coming from Jason Terry who scored 21 points. Lebron performed better ending the game with a triple-double but that was not enough to win the game.

Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks squash LeBron James and the Miami Heat, shocking the NBA by taking the championship in South Beach in Game 6 Sunday night.
Finally for Dirk, winning his first championship. Lebron can only look on

Game 6:
Back to Miami for two games if needed, Dallas leads the series 3-2 and is looking to close out the series at Miami. Jason Terry was the stand-out for Dallas coming off the bench to score 27 points and Nowitzki added 21. For Lebron James he has to wait another year before he can win his first championship. The final score 105-95, and Dallas has finally won their first championship.

Nowtizki was also voted the Finals MVP!

34 - NHL Stanley Cup Finals

Post no. 34 here:
My 1st ice-hockey post and it's a big one.

The series is between the Boston Bruins (3) and the Vancouver Canucks (1), the Canucks finished 1st and had home court advantage of the best of 7 series.

Game 1:
Canucks at home were looking to start the series off well, and it was an evenly fought contest with their only being 1 score the whole game. Raffi Torres scored with only 18.5 seconds left to give the win to the Canucks series 1-0.

Game 2:
Canucks' 2nd home game and were looking to build on their win, there were more scores this game and nothing could separate the teams at the end of regulation with the score tied at 2-2. The Canucks only needed 11 seconds of overtime to score and that would be the decider. Series 2-0

Boston's goalie Tim Thomas, playing a huge role in leveling the series
Game 3:
Boston had waited 21 years to make the finals again, and did they deliver in their 1st home game. The final score 8-1 to Boston with their goalie saving 40 out of 41 shots. Series 2-1

Game 4:
Crucial game for the series and Boston's 2nd home game, and they carried their form over from last game with another big win. Final score 4-0 with their goalie Tim Thomas having another field day with a 100% saving rate. Series tied 2-2

Game 5:
The momentum was with Boston and they were looking to steal an away win, this was the most important game of the series and the Canucks came through. The final scoreline 1-0 showed how close it was with both goalies performing well but the Canucks had more opportunities. Series lead 3-2, last home game for Boston coming up followed by one more at Vancouver.

Post no. 33 here:
AFL Rd 12 tipping, last week 6/8

St Kilda vs Bulldogs
Both teams need a win to stay in the finals race, and I expect Saints to win this game. Should be very close though

Adelaide vs West Coast
Adelaide need a win to keep their season alive and they should get the job done at home

Gold Coast vs North Melbourne
Difficult game to tip, Gold Coast at home but they are not looking that good. I think North should just crawl over the line

Another fantastic grab
Geelong vs Hawthorn
The game of the round, both top 4 contenders and Geelong yet to lost a game and I do not expect them to lose one now.

Carlton vs Brisbane
Carlton in great form and they should carry their momentum forward with a win over the Lions

Sydney vs Richmond
Another difficult game to choose, but Sydney at home is swaying my tip towards them. Under 20 points though

Fremantle vs Essendon
Both teams in terrible form but because Fremantle at home they should get the win. Not sure though

Melbourne vs Collingwood
This is one game I am clear who will win, Collingwood by over 40 points

32 - NBA Finals update

Post no. 32 here:
NBA finals update:

My last NBA finals post showed the game tied at 1-1, with the series moving to Dallas for 3 home games, so far there have been 2 more games and the series is again tied at 2-2.

Game 3:
The first home game for the Mavs, and they were looking to capitalize on winning one on the road, but they were unable to stop Miami and D.Wade. Wade score 29 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, with Bosh helping with 18 and Lebron with 17. Dallas' Dirk Nowtizki finished with 34 points but that was not enough to carry them over the line, final score 88-86 with Bosh scoring the winning basket with 30 seconds left.

Chris Bosh's game winner
Game 4:
2nd home game for Mavs, and in desperate need for a win. The odds were stacked against them with their star player Dirk playing with a fractured pinky and the flu with a temperature of 102F or 39C, but they stepped up to keep their hopes alive. Dirk scored 21 with help from Jason Terry who scored 17 points, Miami's D.Wade put in another big performance with 32 points, and Bosh helping out with 24 but Lebron only scored 8.

Series tied at 2-2 and Dallas' has one more home game, and they will be looking to put pressure on Heat's home games.

Come back for the winner of the NBA championship in a couple of days.

Joke of the Day:
Q: What do you call a man who lives in an envelope?
A: Bill.

31 - Soccer Australia vs Serbia

Post no. 31 here:
Australia vs Serbia in Melbourne for a friendly match.

The match was played in good spirit, which was different to the weather which was rain and more rain. The rain did not stop the crowd from turning up with over 30,000 people braved the cold to watch The Socceroos play against Serbia.

The match ebbed and flowed towards both sides, with neither team breaking free. Both teams had chances but were unable to capitalize, and the drawn scoreline of 0-0 is a fair result to both teams. Serbia had a higher percentage of ball in possession but they were lacking the class to 'put the ball in the back of the net.'

The Socceroos!
The large crowd tried to edge The Socceroos over the line with their songs and energy, including lighting flares and intimidating the small percentage of Serbs that had traveled to watch the game. Hopefully things are looking up for The Socceroos and their world cup qualifying, because soccer is becoming more and more popular here in Australia.

30 - French Open Winners

Post no. 30 here:
French Open Winners!

Men's Singles:
The match-up we wanted: Rafael Nadal vs Roger Federer
Rafael equaled the world record of French Open titles with 6.
It was a match that exceeded expectations with Nadal winning 7-5, 7-6, 5-7, 6-1. It was close throughout the match except for the last set where Nadal out-ran Federer to win his 6th title.

Finally!
Nadal after his championship win

Women's Singles:
China's Li Na vs Last year's winners Francesca Schiavone!
Li Na became the first ever Asian Woman to win a Grand Slam.

Even though the match only lasted two sets, it was an even match and the 6-4, 7-6 scoreline proves that. Li Na led 3-1 in the opening set before Schiavone fought back to equalize at 4-4, before Na finished the set off. The 2nd set started with Na leading but it was an equal battle and the tie-breaker was forced. Na won the tie-breaker convincingly with a 7-0 win.

28 - NBA finals update

Post no. 28 here:
NBA finals update

The NBA 10/11 season is a few games away from completion with Miami Heat and Dallas Maverics playing it off for the ultimate prize.

The finals are 2 games in, and the series is tied up 1 a piece. Miami had both games at home and they will be disappointed losing 1 of their home games. The series now moves to Dallas for 3 consecutive games there and Dallas will be hoping they can win the next 3 games in a row.

Game 1:
Game 1 was a defensive battle for both teams, with them shooting poorly from the field with both teams only scoring under 40% of their shots. The Heat had their superstars carry them with Lebron James scoring 24 points and Dwayne Wade scored 22. Final score 92-84
Dirk Nowitzki's match-winning lay up in game 2

Game 2:
More free flowing game and it looked like Miami would take a 2-0 series lead with a lead of 15 points late in the last quarter. Out of no-where Dallas finished the game with a 22-5 run. Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki led them to victory with scoring the match-winning lay-up with 3 seconds remaining, he finished with 24 points for the game. Even Dwayne Wade's 36 points couldn't carry Miami to victory!

Come back for updates on the finals!

Post no. 27 here:
AFL Rd 11 tipping guide

Essendon vs Melbourne
Essendon is coming off their bye and needs another win for confidence, and Melbourne are in terrible form. I think Essendon should win by a huge margin.

Geelong vs Bulldogs
Top of the table Geelong playing against a hopeless Bulldogs, Geelong by over 30

West Coast vs Gold Coast
West Coast at home is making me tip them by over 40 against 1st year team Gold Coast

Collingwood vs St. Kilda
Collingwood will be looking to maintain 2nd position and will be too good for the Saints

Another great catch!

Brisbane vs Sydney
Brisbane are looking much better winning the last 2 games, and will make it 3 in a row with a win against Sydney

Hawthorn vs Fremantle
Hawthorn are in great form and Fremantle have been rocked by injury, Hawthorn by over 50

North Melbourne vs Adelaide
Both teams need a win, and I think North Melbourne will just scrape over the line

Port Adelaide vs Carlton
Port coming off a good win last week will have a challenge on their hands, and I am tipping an upset to Port.

26 - Roland Garros quarter finals

Post no. 26 here:
French Open quarter finals

Men's singles:
Rafael Nadal (1) vs Robin Soderling (5)
This match will be the most contested out of the quarter finals, with both players giving it all they can. I expect the king of clay Nadal to win though.

Andy Murray (4) vs Juan Chela
Can't see the unseeded Chela defeating Britain's Andy Murray.

Gael Monfies (9) vs Roger Federer (3)
Exciting match-up but I think the 17 time grand slam winner to defeat the last Frenchmen.

Fabio Fognini vs Novak Djokovic (1)
Fognini did well to make it to his 1st quarter final, but had to withdraw because of a quadriceps injury.

Tennis superstar Roger Federer
Women's single:
Svetlana Kuzentzova (13) vs Marion Bartoli (11)
I think Bartoli should be able to progress to the semi-finals

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (14) vs Francesca Schiavone (5)
Last years winner Schiavone is in great form, and should easily win and get 1 step closer to the trophy.

Na Li (6)  vs Victoria Azarenka (4)
This will be the tightest of the 4 matches and I am tipping Na Li to win in a upset.

Maria Sharapova (7)  vs Andrea Petkovic (15)
Sharapova is returning to her career best form and will be too good and make it through to the semi-finals.

Come back for an update in a couple of days!
